The Outreach Committee at St Aidan's provides the congregation with leadership and organization for all the ways we can help those in need. Together, we aspire to live up to our vision statement:
Christian stewardship can be summed up as: "All that I do, with all that I have, all of the time." Therefore, the Outreach Committee strives to lead the congregation in reaching out to others with every resource we have.
What Do We Do To "Reach Out"?
• We gather money through special envelope offerings four times a year ~ at Easter, Pentecost, Thanksgiving and Advent. This year, we support St. Paul's Daily Bread, Huron Church Camp, Huron Hunger Fund (Primate’s World Relief & Development Fund), Hurricane Relief in Jamaica, Women’s Community House and the Men’s Mission.
• We provide parishioners with an opportunity to learn more about some of the worthy causes seeking our assistance, by presenting periodic speakers following liturgy. In this way, St. Aidan's learned more about the South American Missionary Society (SAMS) and Trinity College's work with the the poor in Cuba. These are two other organizations Outreach also supported this past year.
• We participate in the annual Giving Tree Program, supported by several West London churches. This program gathers wrapped Christmas gifts for children in need. In addition, we host the ‘Remembrance Tree’ at St Aidan's, which enables parishioners to purchase a dove to place on the tree to remember a loved one who cannot be near at Christmas. The funds raised through this initiative are used to purchase gifts for foster children in the care of the Salvation Army.
• We are learning about ways to respond to homelessness in London, and have recently contributed money and time to the London Affordable Housing Foundation.
Many "opportunities" for outreach are presented each day and we are organizing to deepen our care for others in the coming year. We are always looking for new members and for new ways to make an impact in our city, our province, our country and our world. Join us!
